A Little More About Me And My Life …
Well, where to start!
I was born in England rather more years ago than I care to remember and am the middle child of three daughters. I get on really well with both my sisters and my parents (and current step-parents!) and thought this was completely normal, until friends told me that this was absolutely not the case for most of the western world!
I was shipped off to boarding school from the age of 11 until 16, and it was during this time, at the tender age of 13, that I met Bug. After an adventurous yet remarkably brief relationship, I didn’t set eyes on him again for over 30 years and now, here I am, married to him and living in California! Our story has been quite unusual and a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. So much so that friends insisted I should write it all down in a book, which would be snapped up by one of the leading publishers and immediately get onto the NY Times bestseller list, followed by a bidding war over the film rights, the blockbuster movie of which would star Brad Pitt and/or George Clooney! Ahh, dream on!
Being the massive people pleaser I am, I dutifully started writing … and loved it! Who knew? I put the first couple of chapters up on Scribd (a fantastic place for writers if you don’t know about it), plus a few other humourous pieces, and in just over a year I have amassed over 46,000 reads! How exciting is that? If you would like to read the first chapter of my memoir Right From The Start, please click here.

Wow, that's a great number of reads to amass and it's not even finished yet. You need to get this finished and submitted, I want to see the movie :)
ReplyDeleteHi Claire, fellow Brit here. I'm part of the same Campaign group so I thought I'd drop by and say hello. Best of luck with the book and blog, sounds like you're off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the romance :) I agree with Claire, you need to get that story finished.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting :)
ReplyDeleteClaire & Raelyn - yes, need to finish the damn thing so I can get Brad or George on board!
Neil - yay, good to connect to a fellow Brit.
Hi, Claire! I'm a fellow campaigner in your "Humor" group. I have to say, your memoir sounds incredible, and i can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteI love memoirs, and your book sounds fantastic! I am a fellow memoir campaigner (though I write other things, too). It is nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to reading it. it sounds very intriguing. I found you through Rach Hairre's campaign and really enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteScott - thanks for your kind words and I must stop distracting myself from finishing my book by blogging so much!
ReplyDeleteSusan - thanks and great to meet a fellow memoir Campaigner.
Cathy - thanks and looking forward to more fun on the Campaign :)
Fellow Campaigner here. I wondered what that scribd thing was. May have to try it. I write SF/fantasy but love reading the humorous ones best, Terry Pratchett's Discworld, Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide series, Piers Anthony's Xanth series. (hear that series name in his pun name?) I also never thought I would want to write and also love it. Keep on. I followed here and on twitter, and put in a friend request on facebook. You might want to start an author page for people to like. You can do the same for me on one easy spot, and might win chocolate or a gift card besides: http://sherahart.blogspot.com/2011/08/want-some-free-chocolate-brown-nosing.html
ReplyDeleteHi Sher
ReplyDeleteI would highly recommend Scribd - it is the largest reading and publishing site in the world apparently, but it also has a great supportive group of writers there. I will look at an author page, although I haven't finished my book so should I wait? Love your site :)
hi again! just to let you know i am following you in google reader...dont think it shows up your end. janexxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. Gonna allocate some time this weekend to visiting everyone's blog on my list and follow them :)
ReplyDeleteHi Claire, fellow campaigner here finally getting around to visiting all of the blogs in the groups I joined. This is my first campaign and so far I'm having fun. Going to read your first chapter soon. Your life story sounds like a great read.
ReplyDeleteA fellow Californian! And a writer. Good to meet you.
ReplyDeleteJoelle - great to meet you. My first campaign too. I would love to hear your comments on my first chapter (I am v thick skinned so please be honest!).
ReplyDeleteMarilyn - yay, great to connect with a Californian. Where are you?
Hi Claire, I'm finally stopping by from the campaign!
ReplyDeleteI love how you and your husband met! It reminds me of me and my husband - after we started dating, we realized we had lived at the same apartment complex when we were little, and he remembered my grandfather (who is actually still the maintenance man there). Chances are that we actually talked to each other at some point back then, even though it was right around the time my family moved into a house.
I hope to get a chance to read your first chapter soon!
Happy Campaigning!
