A little something for the weekend ... ?

I am going to try and post some music every week. Sometimes I am going to focus on one band, like I did with the Stereophonics and sometimes it might be a few different artists. Today I felt like going country. Yee Haw!

Since I got to California, I have really missed the UK music scene. All the music over here is either regurgitated from the 60's and 70's, mainstream pop, or country music, lots and lots of country music. In the past, I had associated country music with people like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. I hadn't realised that there was a whole new genre - young and sexy! (Cor, those cowboys ain't half bad!) So, as the old saying goes, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

And wouldn't you know it, after a few weeks of listening I actually started to enjoy it and now I'm proud to admit I'm a new country fan! Yes, I know, my indie rock chicks back home are groaning, covering their faces in despair and disowning me, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

My first pick is Miranda Lambert. She has won just about every award going and is the first country artist in the 47 year history of the chart to have each of her first four albums debut at #1. I persuaded my hubby to take me to see her live last year and she was excellent. This is the song that got me into her:

Miranda Lambert:
The House That Built Me

This next band are a trio called Lady Antebellum who make contemporary country music. I bought their second album "Need You Now" and there isn't a bad song on it. Again, they seem to be winning one music award after another.

Lady Antebellum:
American Honey

To finish, a bit of eye candy and Keith Urban is that in spades. He was born in New Zealand, raised in Australia and found fame in Nashville. He married Nicole Kidman and has battled with alcoholism. I haven't got any of his CDs but heard him a lot on the radio and so far have liked all his songs. He's worth watching even if you don't like the music.

Keith Urban:
Put You In A Song

Finally, I was awarded One Lovely Blog Award by two bloggers and have only just managed to find time to thank them properly. So, a big shout out to Cheryl and Lindy. The rules: link back to them and ask you to take a moment to follow them, and pass it on to other bloggers. So, I pass this Award to the following amazing bloggers:
Alex J Cavanaugh
Barbara Alfaro
Ingrid Ricks
Pat Hatt
Cristina Dossantos

  4. Hi Claire, Thanks for this mini-concert, especially the Lady Antebellum video. And what a warm surprise to see your mention of my blog. I appreciate it. Glad you are here in the colonies!

  5. I am definitely not a country fan, but I know what you mean about the music here. The popular stuff is so generic. The European progressive rock scene just lows it away - and it's popular!
