Blog Critique

Today I am having my blog critiqued by Laura Barnes from Laura B Writer. She does this on a regular basis - so go and check out her blog. I think she said some very nice things about my blog (phew, worried there for a moment) but, of course, also things that need improving. I shall consider and try and implement them. (I have cut out 'negative space' already. And stopped the exclamation points - boy, that feels like I am speaking in a monotone. Ooooh wanted to put one there.)

What do you think? Do you agree with Laura? Anything you would rather see or not see? Any blogging tips or secrets that I am missing?

One of the things she mentioned was not having a regular blog schedule. Now this is a tricky one for me. I can be fairly undisciplined and like to be spontaneous. Plus my everyday life (and now work) make it quite hard to find the time to write a blog on a set timescale. How do you guys do it?

Also, a tagline for myself? Yikes, not sure what that would be (well, anything that could go on a public blog, anyway). Suggestions anyone??

  1. Great critque, and yeah as far as the schedule goes. I just post everyday so I don't need to think one up..haha

  2. Sounds like great suggestions. I think a schedule or regular posting is important.

  3. Cudos to being brave enough for the critique! I haven't put myself out there yet because I know EXACTLY what she'll say, and I don't want to hear it. (Ignorance is bliss...or self-delusion is bliss.) I echo your sentiment about a schedule. I've worked with and without one, and I got a larger regular following with a two to three times a week posting regiment than once a week. BUT, life is life and I can't afford that much blogging.

As far as a tag line, good luck! I think it's essential to know what you're after through blogging before nailing down details like that.

  4. She had some great comments! One I agree with the most, is the uncluttered compliment - bravo! (Yes, I used an explanation point.) You've got a great thing here for sure! :)

  5. Pat - I don't know how you do your blog every day, especially rhyming. So impressive.
Ciara - Yes, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and commit to this blog. Yikes(!)
Crystal - Yeah, denial is so great, isn't it? Interesting re followers though. Hmm food for thought.
Kimberly - thanks for your kind comments. Trying not to clutter but I am going against my nature LOL

  8. Hi Claire, I admire your courage to submit your blog for feedback. Your post triggered me to check out Laura's feedback. I also checked out the specific blog elements Laura reviews> I learned quite a bit that I can apply to my blog as well. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hey Claire -- I had my critique from Laura today, and it was pretty helpful! I was thinking about your dilemma trying to figure out a tagline/description of your blog. I had the same issue, which is why mine is just list of the sorts of things I tend to blog about. You could try that. I'm still not entirely sure how to describe my blog, I'm just pursuing things that interest me and I assume it will work itself out in time. But I'm still thinking about it.

  11. I just thought of three major areas I write about on my blog, and added "and life" to cover everything else! LOL
