P is for Paul Weller
The Jam was one of the most popular punk rock bands of the era, which he first started in 1972 as a sharp-suited mod. The Jam achieved massive success, with somewhere between 12 -19 albums (depending which source you go to), but Paul decided to leave the band at the height of their success 10 years later to reinvent himself. I actually went and saw The Jam live back in the day in Guildford, in the UK. They were excellent, except that the place was so hot from everyone going mad pogo-ing and getting drunk, that the condensation was dripping off the ceiling onto us sweaty, smelly things below making us even more revolting. Ewww. But all part of the punk experience at the time LOL This is my fav track of theirs.
A Town Called Malice by The Jam
In 'W' I shall tell you about The Style Council and his solo career. Unfortunately, he is not very well known over here in America so don't think I shall be seeing him here anytime soon. Oh well, off to see Gotye play live tonight in San Francisco, so can't complain.
Loved The Jam. Curious to hear about the Gotye show.
ReplyDeleteI will let you guys know (esp as I haven't written tomorrow's blog yet - yikes!) but very excited.

DeleteBlack market jam is one if my favorite EPs...that's extended play vinyl for the youngsters...after that Mr Weller became too mainstream for my tastes, but am happy to "tap" to it...
ReplyDeleteToo mainstream?? Have you heard any of his latest stuff? I will have to force you to listen to more!!
