E is for Elbow
Time for some music! Love this band. I was first introduced to them by my hubby’s brother and thought their name was fab. They looked like a bunch of accountants though. Then they won the (British) Mercury Music Prize for their album The Seldom Seen Kid in 2008 and went from being virtual unknowns (although they'd been around for years) to overnight megastars. They are even composing the BBC’s 2012 Olympic coverage theme tune – can there be loftier heights for a band to aspire?
I love this video - the coolest bit of sign twirling ever! Worth watching just to see this boy's amazing skills.
5 silly facts about elbows:
1. Unless you are double-jointed, it is impossible to lick your own elbow (go on, try it).
2. The distance between your elbow and wrist is roughly the same as your foot size.
3. Not only is hitting your funny bone not all that funny (in fact, not funny at all), the thing you hit isn't actually a bone. That's right, your funny bone is actually your funny ulnar nerve ... ha ha ha!
4. The inside of your elbow is called the anicubital space.
5. There's an Elbow Beach in Bermuda.

I enjoyed the video.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the sensation of hitting my funny bone...I mean my ulnar nerve.
Great video, isn't it? Glad you watched it.
DeleteThis is my absolute favourite Elbow song. The first time I heard this at Glastonbury, I watched in slack jaw amazement and couldn't move.
ReplyDeleteUtterly brilliant!
I saw them in Golden Gate Park at a FREE concert! So great.
DeleteNever knew of the elbow beach. Yeah I tried to lick my elbow a few times, it never worked. Unless I lick my finger first and then touch my elbow, technically I licked it right?
ReplyDeleteHa ha - yes, I think that counts. But I thought cats could like ANY body part??
DeleteHi Claire,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to thank you for the Amazon Gift Card. I ordered How to Write the Breakout Novel by Donald Mass, which has been on my list for such a long time. Just wanted you to know that your gift was really appreciated and that it's going to have lasting value.
Best wishes!
Liza@MiddlePassages

Eat Live Move: Intuitive Eating from A to Z
My pleasure - I love spreading the love re different bands.
DeleteHee Hee...there's also Elbow SK, Canada! Can you imagine?
ReplyDelete"Where are you from?"
"Elbow."
Let the jokes run free...
Ha ha - that's great. Perhaps I should do a blog on the funniest places.
DeleteYou want funny places...Jupiter FL!
DeleteVideo blocked when I tried to access it (message said 'Embedding blocked at request - View on YouYube') - but I've seen it before, anyway! ;-)
ReplyDeleteApparently, one of the skincare tips for rough skin on elbows is to sit with each one resting in half a lemon. I can imagine the doorbell ringing just as I get settled......
Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier, btw! ;-)
SueH I refuse to go quietly!
Thanks Sue, I've fixed it. Ha ha re lemons.
DeleteHaven't heard Elbow before-thanks for the into.
ReplyDeleteGreat band - def worth listening to.
DeleteBut funny ulnar nerve just doesn't have the same ring to it. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the video! I wonder how much he had to practice before they filmed it . . .
Oh stop - you're spoiling it for me. I thought they just 'captured' this very talented kid!
DeleteThis song always makes me happy. Sometimes, as if by magic, it's the song playing on my radio when it goes off in the morning - it's a great wake-up song!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely when a song does that.
DeleteClaire, I'm with you, I love Elbow. Forget myself was the track that got me into them. Starlings has to be one of my favs too.
ReplyDeleteYes, Forget Myself was the one that hooked me too.
Deletea whole post on somehting useless like 'elbow' good for you lol
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteThis post actually made me laugh out loud. I was first introduced to Elbow by my now-ex-boyfriend, who, ironically enough, is an accountant.
ReplyDeleteJust hopping by. Good luck on A-Z!
Excellent! Come back and see what's coming tomorrow if you liked this!
DeleteDon't know elbow -- but that kid with the sign was truly amazing. The video made me wonder how long someone with that much energy and creativity had to stand out on a sidewalk, somewhere, and where is he now (the video was made in 2008). Good luck with the rest of A-Z!
ReplyDeleteI know - amazing - he should be earning a fortune but probably isn't.
DeleteOh gosh, the 'funny' bone. The unfunniest part of the body!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really love this song.
I always hated it when my grandfather told me to laugh when I was almost crying in pain.
DeleteGreat video!
ReplyDeleteSince about 7, I refer to it as "the bone hilarious".
Also, for some strange reason, in slang it means "a pound of marijuana".
LOL What are you like?!
